Research

My research follows two distinct lines of inquiry, first in rhetoric of science, technology, and mathematics; and secondly in political communication.
The first line of inquiry is exemplified in my dissertation, where I explore Conan Doyle’s use of the Sherlock Holmes stories to popularize scientific modes of argumentation. In political communication, I focus on presidential public address in Eastern Europe. However, my interest in detective fiction is a common thread that links my research. |
Teaching / Lecturing
I teach variety of courses in the Contemporary Communication including: Public Relations, Media Culture in a Digital Age, Political Communication, Persuasion and Propaganda, and Rhetoric and Social Change. I see teaching as a collaboration between myself, my colleagues, and my students as we pursue learning outcomes together.
I have also delivered popular public lectures in a variety of venues around the world. If you would like to have me speak at your event, please use the contact form on this site. I am available for large lectures and smaller group training sessions.

Production / Performance
I helped produce Traverse Through Time, a series of lectures celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, Scotland. This was a wonderful opportunity to dive into the history of one the worlds most fascinating performance spaces through the eyes of its artistic directors.
I also have some experience as an artistic director myself through my work with Rocket Venues. I started out as a Venue Manager, and was promoted all the way up Artistic Director before leaving the arts world for a career in academia. While I preferred backstage work to onstage work, I have training and experience in both professional theatre and performance studies. |
